Men Golfers Eighth At Rod Myers Invitational

The North Carolina men's golf team is in eighth place after two rounds of the Rod Myers Invitational being played at Duke University Golf Club. The Tar Heels carded a 305 in Saturday's morning round but rebounded well firing a 6-over-par 294 in the afternoon round. Carolina's Michael McGowan is tied for ninth place in the individual race.
McGowan, a junior from Southern Pines, N.C., fired a 2-under-par 70 in the afternoon round after a 3-over 75 in the morning. His 1-over 145 total put him in a tie for ninth place with one round left to play. Senior Patrick Barrett, from Pinehurst, N.C., is just one stroke back with a 2-over 146 total in a tie for 14th. Barrett fired a pair of 1-over 73s for his 146 total. Bailey Patrick, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., carded rounds of 76-78 for a 154 total and is tied for 47th. Senior Matt Raudenbush and freshman Zach Munroe both carded an 81 in the first round. Raudenbush, from Pine Valley, N.J., then fired a 2-over 74 in the second round for a 155 total and is tied for 51st while Munroe posted a 77 for a 158 total and is tied for 58th place.
Three Tar Heels are competing as individuals. Brandon Dalinka, a freshman from Newtown, Pa., posted a 156 total after shooting a pair of 78s and is alone in 56th place. Junior Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., has a 158 total after two 79s and is tied for 58th while sophomore James Ellis, from Greenville, N.C., has a 159 total and stands tied for 61st after rounds of 81-78.
Charlotte leads the 11-team field with a 3-under-par 573 total. The 49ers fired a 4-under 284 in the afternoon round after posting a 1-over 289 in the morning. Duke is two strokes back in second place with a 1-under 575 total. Baylor is third at 4-over 580, Iowa is fourth at 582 and Tulsa is fifth at 589.
Steven Ihm of Iowa grabbed the individual lead with a 4-under-par 140 after firing a pair of 70s on Saturday. Raoul Menard of Charlotte stands alone in second place at 3-under 141 with rounds of 72-69. Menard's 69 was one of only two 69s fired on the day and the low round of the day. Brinson Paolini of Duke is in third place at 2-under 142 while three players are tied for fourth place at 1-under 143 - Tulsa's Stephen Carney, Charlotte's Tyler Mitchell and Duke's Julian Suri.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Duke University Golf Club which features a par 72, 7,136-yard layout. There is no admission and the public is invited to attend. Also, live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
