NBA Update, Sunday, February 13, 2011:
by Kevin Chandler, UNC Athletic Communications
Vince Carter, Phoenix Suns- The starting shooting Guard averaged 12.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in his last five games. Since his 33 point performance on February 4th against Oklahoma City, his performance has not been up to par, but the Suns have still managed to win three out their last four games. The Phoenix Suns will play in a nationally televised game on Friday against Dallas at 10:30 p.m. on TNT.
Ed Davis, Toronto Raptors- The backup power forward made a spot start in place of Amir Johnson in Friday's loss to the Blazers and put up six points and 13 rebounds in 28 minutes.
Wayne Ellington, Minnesota Timberwolves- The backup shooting guard scored in double digits in three games this past week. He had 11 on February 7th against New Orleans, 18 on February 8th against Houston, and 14 on February 11th against Indiana.
Raymond Felton, New York Knicks- The starting point guard is averaging a double-double in his last five games, with 17.8 points and 10.4 assists per game. He had 13 points and 11 assists in a winning effort against the New Jersey Nets on Saturday night.
Tyler Hansbrough, Indiana Pacers- The power forward averaged 8.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in his last five games. The recent firing of head coach Jim O'Brien has seemed to have sparked the Pacers, as they have won seven out of their last eight.
Brendan Haywood- The backup center did not play in two out of four games this past week. In Wednesday night's win against Sacramento, he recorded seven points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of action. The Dallas Mavericks will play in a nationally televised game on Friday at Phoenix at 10:30 p.m. on TNT.
Antawn Jamison- Over his last five games, Jamison is averaging 19.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Although the Cavaliers are struggling, he has remained strong statistically. The power forward played a critical role in the victory Friday night against the Clippers that snapped an NBA record 26 game losing streak.
Ty Lawson, Denver Nuggets- Last Monday, the backup point guard recorded 19 points. Because of an injury to starting point guard Chauncey Billups, he started at the point on Wednesday at Golden State in a losing effort. He had eight points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal. The Denver Nuggets will play in a nationally televised game on Wednesday at Milwaukee at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN.
Marvin Williams, Atlanta Hawks- After missing nearly all of January due to a back injury, the starting small forward seems to be getting back into the flow of things. He recorded two straight double-doubles this week, with 15 points and 12 rebounds against Washington, and 10 points and 10 rebounds against Philadelphia.
Brandan Wright, Golden State Warriors- The Power forward saw action in three out of four games this week. He recorded a season high of 24 minutes and had 10 points Thursday night against Phoenix.
