North Carolina Tee's Off In Tallahassee For Seminole Intercollegiate

The North Carolina men's golf team finished 10th after carding a 16-over 300 in the opening round of the Seminole Intercollegiate played at the Southwood Golf Course. The team was led by senior Henry Zaytoun III and sophomore Michael McGowan.
Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., and McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., both fired two-over 73 totals in the first round of the 54-hole event and are tied for 19th place. Clark Palmer, a sophomore from Augusta, Ga., is tied for 56th after posting a five-over 76. Senior Philip Chauncey, Durham, N.C., and freshman Sean Jacklin, Bradenton, Fla., both ended the day tied for 65th with seven-over 78 totals.
Arkansas led the 18-team field with a seven-under 277 and was the only team to post a score under par. Second place is held by Florida State who fired a three-over 287. Mississippi State finished the day in third at five-over 289 and Kennesaw State finished fourth at six-over 290. Two strokes back was North Texas in fifth with an eight-over 292 and at 11-over 295 was Troy in sixth. There is a three-way tie for seventh at 12-over 296 between Houston, Georgia State and Cincinnati.
Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas and Carlos Ortiz of North Texas lead the players at three-under 68. There is a five-way tie for third between Cincinnati's Zack Bates, Arkansas' Austin Cook, Kennesaw State's Ben Greene, Troy's Zach Portemont and Arkansas' Ethan Tracy at two-under 69. And Robi Calvesbert of Mississippi State and Brooks Koepka of Florida State finished the day tied in eighth with one-under 70 totals.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday at Southwood Golf Course which features a par 71, 7141-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstatresults.com.
