Carolina Golfers Show Improvement At Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
The North Carolina men's golf team showed improvement in the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate, carding a 16-over-par 584 total for eighth place. The Tar Heels were once again led by senior Henry Zaytoun III.
Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., posted three birdies and two bogeys for a one-under 70, bringing him to a one-over 143 total. Zaytoun is in a five-way tie for 11th place. Two strokes behind were Michael McGowan and Sean Jacklin who both finished even par. McGowan, a sophomore from Southern Pines, N.C., is tied for 16th with a two-over 144 while Jacklin, a freshman from Bradenton, Fla., is tied for 44th with a seven-over 149. Sophomore Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., posted a one-over 72 for the day and has a six-over 148 total. Palmer is tied for 38th place. Philip Chauncey, a senior from Durham, N.C., finished the day with a nine-over 80 and is in 87th with a 16-over 158 total.
Arkansas did not repeat its impressive first-round performance but maintains the lead at four-under 564. Florida State remains in second at one-under 567. In third is Kennesaw State at three-over 571 and North Texas is fourth at four-over 572. A few strokes back is Mississippi State in fifth at 10-over 578 and behind them is Houston in sixth at 11-over 579. In seventh is Troy at 14-over 582 and in eighth is North Carolina at 16-over 584. James Madison is ninth at 20-over 588 and Georgia State completes the top 10 at 21-over 589.
Zach Portemont of Troy stole the lead with his two-under 69 performance and sits at four-under 138. Arkansas' Sebastian Cappelen and Florida State's Brooks Koepka are tied in second with three-under 139 totals. Tied for fourth are Ross Mclister of Georgia State and Curtis Reed of Houston at two-under 140. And there is five-way tie for sixth between: Florida State's Bjorn Hellgren, Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson, Florida State's Drew Kittleson, North Texas' Carlos Ortiz and Arkansas' Ethan Tracy.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Southwood Golf Course which features a par 71, 7141-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstatresults.com.
