Tar Heel Golfers In 11th Place at Schenkel Invitational

The North Carolina men's golf team fired a 4-over-par 292 in the second round of the Schenkel Invitational for a 584 total and is in 11th place going into the final round. Senior Henry Zaytoun III and freshman Sean Jacklin led the Tar Heels Saturday as each fired an even-par 72.
Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., has a 2-under 142 total and is tied for 15th place after two rounds while Jacklin, from Bradenton, Fla., has a 4-over 148 total and is tied for 52nd. Michael McGowan, a sophomore from Southern Pines, N.C., stands at even-par 144 after carding a 74 on day two and is tied for 27th. Sophomore Clark Palmer also shot 74 on Saturday after picking up birdies on his last two holes. Palmer goes into the final round tied for 59th with a 150 total. Kevin O'Connell, a senior from Cary, N.C., posted a 3-over 75 and is tied for 70th with a 153 total.
Auburn held onto its lead over the 15-team field with a 22-under 554 total. The Tigers fired 13-under 275 on Saturday, the low score of the day. Florida is six strokes behind Auburn with a 16-under 560 total after firing a 10-under 278 in the second round. LSU and Virginia both carded 11-under 277s in the second round. LSU stands in third place at 12-under 564 while Virginia is one stroke back in fourth place at 565. NC State jumped up to fifth place at 6-under 570 after posting a 10-under 278 in the second round.
Bank Vongvanij of Florida continues to lead all individuals at 10-under 134 after firing a 4-under 68 in the second round. Niclas Carlsson of Auburn is two strokes back in second place at 8-under 136 after firing a 5-under 67 on Saturday. Auburn's Blayne Barber shot a 3-under 69 and is alone in third place at 6-under 138. Three players are tied for fourth place with 5-under 139 totals - Florida's Phillip Choi, LSU's Austin Gutgsell and Virginia's Ben Kohles.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played at Forest Heights Country Club which features a par 72, 6,947-yard layout. Live scoring is available throughout the event at Golfstat.com.
