North Carolina Men's Golf finishes tied for eighth at Irish Creek Collegiate

Kannapolis, N.C.--The North Carolina men's golf team carded a 12-over 296 in the third round, tying for ninth place at the Irish Creek Collegiate with an 886 team-total. Henry Zaytoun III, Michael McGowan and Sean Jacklin paced the Tar Heels, all three placing in the top-30.
McGowan, a sophomore from Southern Pines, N.C., fired a two-over 73 in the final round to finish tied for 20th overall with a team-low four-over 217 for the tournament. Jacklin tallied three birdies and an eagle in round three on his way to a two-under 69. The freshman from Bradenton, Fla., finished with an eight-over 221 overall and tied for 30th. Zaytoun, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., also finished with an eight-over 221 total and in a tie for 30th place. Sophomore Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., registered a 231 total for the tournament and senior Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., ended with a 240 total after three rounds. Matt Raudenbush entered as an individual and fired a two-over 73 in all three rounds en route to a six-over 219 total for the tournament. The junior from Pine Valley, N.J., finished tied for 27th overall and with the fifth-lowest score of 16 individual entries.
Duke University fired a one-under 283 in the final round to capture the team title with an eight-under 844 team-total for the tournament. Wake Forest carded a seven-over 291 in round three to finish with a one-under 851 total, good enough for runner-up. Louisville finished in third place with a four-over 856 total.
Lee Bedford of Wake Forest tallied a blazing seven-under 206 over three rounds to take the individual crown. Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson, Duke's Yaroslav Merkulov and Jason Millard of Middle Tennessee State, finished in a three-way tie for 2nd place, each carding a four-under 209. Spencer Anderson of Duke and Evan Beck of Wake Forest rounded out the top-five, each carding a three-under 210 total.
The 54-hole event was played at The Club at Irish Creek, which features a par-71, 2,099-yard layout. The North Carolina Tar Heels next action will come Mar. 16-17 as they travel to nearby Raleigh, N.C., to compete in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
