Tar Heel Golfers Finish Third At Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH, N.C. -
The North Carolina men's golf team carded a tournament-low two-over-par 286 in the final round of the Wolfpack Spring Open, finishing in third place with a 589 total. Four Tar Heels placed in the top-25 with Sean Jacklin and Matt Raudenbush leading the way, each finishing in the top-five.
Raudenbush, a junior from Pine Valley, N.J., and Jacklin, a freshman from Bradenton, Fla., both fired a one-under 70 in the final round en route to identical 145 tournament totals, finishing in a tie for fourth place. Sophomore Michael McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., carded a one-over 72 in the final round on his way to a tie for 17th place with a 149 total. Senior Henry Zaytoun III, from Raleigh, N.C., carded a 151 total to finish tied for 22nd. Fellow senior and Durham, N.C. native, Philip Chauncey, finished with a 153 total in a tie for 32nd. Carolina's 286 in the final round and third-place finish overall marked the Tar Heels' best performance of the spring season.
The University of Richmond carded identical seven-over 291 rounds to capture the team title with a 582 team total. Lamar finished five strokes back with a 587 total in sole possession of second place and the Tar Heels placed third with a 589 total. Tournament host NC State and Old Dominion rounded out the top-five.
Lamar's MJ Dauffe fired a two-under 69 in the final round to take the individual crown with a three-under 139 total. Dauffe was the only individual to finish both rounds under par. Teammate Xavier Feyaerts and Binghamton's Jake Katz finished tied for runner-up honors with a two-over 144 total. Richmond's Brad Miller, along with Jacklin and Raudenbush of North Carolina, rounded out the top-five.
The 36-hole event was played at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State, which features a par-71 7,358-yard layout.
The Tar Heels will look to build on the momentum from their third-place finish as they travel to New London, N.C., April 22-24 for the ACC Championships.
