UNC Men's Golf tied for 8th after opening round at Irish Creek Collegiate

Kannapolis, N.C.--The North Carolina men's golf team carded a 10-over 294 in round one of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, tying for eighth place. Henry Zaytoun III paced the Tar Heels with a two-under 69.
Zaytoun, the senior from Raleigh, N.C., fired five birdies in the opening round to offset 3 bogeys en route to a team-low 69 and in a tie for 6th place. Sophomore Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., carded a two-over 73 in round one, tying for 24th. Fellow sophomore Michael McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., carded a three-over 74 to tie for 32nd. Sean Jacklin, a freshman from Bradenton, Fla., shot a seven-over 78 and senior Kevin O'Connell from Cary, N.C., finished with an 11-over 82. Entering as an individual, junior Matt Raudenbush from Pine Valley, N.J., carded a two-over 73 and in a tie for 24th place.
Duke University fired an eight-under 276 to lead the team competition. Wake Forest carded a four-under 280 and finished the first round in sole possession of 2nd place. Louisville carded an even-par 284 in the opening round to finish in 3rd place.
The final two rounds of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday, April 10, at The Club at Irish Creek, which features a par 71, 2,099-yard layout. Live scoring is available throughout the event at golfstat.com.
