Carolina's McGowan tied for 20th at NCAA South Central Regional

Erie, Colo.-- University of North Carolina golfer, Michael McGowan, is tied for 20th place with a score of even par through 14 holes after play was suspended at the NCAA South Central Regional due to inclement weather.
Fighting through temperatures below 40 degrees all day,McGowan carded a one-over-par 37 on the front-nine at the Colorado National Golf Club. The sophomore from Southern Pines, N.C., started off the back half with birdies on No. 11 and No.13., before bogeying the lengthy 233-yard par-3 14th. McGowan hoped to finish his opening round after a short weather delay, but play was officially suspended around 7 p.m.
The conclusion of the first round will start at 10 a.m.Friday and the second round is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
Seven of the 13 teams participating in the regional have not completed their first round. No. 1Oklahoma State leads the six teams that did finish round one with a 12-under276 total. No. 13 Auburn University is currently second after carding an eight-under 280, followed by No.24 Arizona State with a six-under 282 total.
With two holes remaining to complete his first round,Colorado State's Zahkai Brown sits atop the individual leader board at seven-under through 16 holes. Sean Einhaus of Oklahoma State fired a six-under 66 and is in second place, with Auburn's Niclas Carlsson chasing in third place after carding a five-under 67.
The 54-hole event continues through Saturday, May 21, at Colorado National, which features a par-72, 7,758-yard layout. The top five teams out of each six regionals, plus the top individual not on one of those top-five schools, will advance to the national finals, May 31-June 5, in Stillwater, Okla.
