Carolina's McGowan Tied For 22nd At NCAA South Central-Colorado Regional

University of North Carolina golfer Michael McGowan is tied for 22nd place at 1-under-par 143 going into the final round of the NCAA South Central-Colorado Regional. McGowan, competing as an individual, fired a one-under 71 on Friday.
McGowan, a sophomore from Southern Pines, N.C., first had to complete his first-round play Friday morning. He finished the first round with an even par 72.
"Well, after going back out Friday morning a starting at 8:00, there was finally some sun and my first shot was from the fairway on the 15th hole," McGowan said. "I ended up making as birdie from about 30 feet but followed it up with a bogey on the following par 3. I finished even on the round."
Then in the second round, McGowan began on the 10th tee and carded birdies on the par-4 18th hole and the par-5 7th hole. He posted a bogey on the par-4 6th hole and concluded the round at 1-under-par 71.
There is a three-way tie for the individual lead between Oklahoma State's Sean Einhaus and Kevin Tway and Georgia's T.J. Mitchell. The trio of players sit at 7-under-par with 137 totals.
Oklahoma State leads the field of 13 teams with a blistering 25-under 551 total. Auburn is in a distant place at 9-under 567 while Clemson and Georgia are tied for third at 6-under 570.
After temperatures ranging from 38 to 44 degrees on Thursday, Friday's weather was a bit better as the sun came out the it climbed up to 60 degrees. There was a 90-minute weather delay, but all players completed second round play.
The 54-hole event continues through Saturday at Colorado National Golf Club which features a par 72, 7,758-yard layout. The top five teams and one individual not on those five teams advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 31-June 5 in Stillwater, Okla.
