Pat Foster Named Tar Heel Performer of the Week

University of North Carolina freshman midfielder Pat Foster of the Tar Heel men's lacrosse team was named the Tar Heel performer of the week for the period from May 2-8, 2011. Foster scored the game-winning goal to lift the Tar Heels past third-ranked Notre Dame 9-8 in the regular-season finale at Fetzer Field.

Foster scored twice, including the game-winning goal 1:03 into overtime, to lift the 12th-ranked Tar Heels to a 9-8 victory over third-ranked Notre Dame in the regular-season finale for both teams. The win not only clinched an NCAA Tournament berth for the Tar Heels but also gave them the No. 8 seed and home field in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Foster became the first Tar Heel freshman to score a game-winning overtime goal since April 19, 1986 when Corey Gavitt scored in overtime to beat Duke 10-9 at Fetzer Field.

Tar Heel junior Catherine O'Donnell tied for sixth place at the NCAA East Regional last weekend. Playing with a badly sprained ankle, she led Carolina to a runner-up finish and a spot in the NCAA Championships to be played May 18-21 at The Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. O'Donnell fired rounds of 70-74-73 for a 1-over-par 217 total at LPGAInternational Legends Course, a par 72, 6,271-yard layout. The Tar Heels fired a 4-over 868 total after rounds of 293-282-293, just two strokes behind champion Alabama.

Lynch tied her career high with eight points on four goals and four assists in leading the Tar Heels to a 20-4 win over High Point on Friday afternoon. Coming off atwo-week layoff for final exams, Lynch tallied three goals and four assists in the first half to set the tone as UNC jumped out to a 15-2 halftime lead. With her four assists, Lynch now has 67 for her career, moving into second place on the Carolina career chart behind Megan Bosica's total of 77. Lynch has a Tar Heel single-season record 32 assists this season.
