Postgame Notes

Kendall Marshall had 12 assists today and broke the ACC's single-season assist record. He now has 311 assists, breaking the record of 303 by Georgia Tech's Craig Neal in 1987-88. This was the 14th time this year he had 10 or more assists, one behind Chris Corchiani's ACC record of 15 in 1990-91.

Marshall has 311 assists in 32 games, an average of 9.72, which is the best in ACC single-season history and the eighth-best in NCAA history. In his career, Marshall has 541 assists in 69 games, an average of 7.84, which is second in ACC history.

Marshall scored 13 points today, the sixth time this year and the 12th time in his career he has scored in double figures. It was the third time in the last five games that Marshall has scored in double figures (22 at NC State, 20 at Duke and 13 today).

In three games against Maryland this year, Marshall had 36 assists, an average of 12 per game.

Carolina is now 87-40 in ACC Tournament play, 10-4 in Atlanta in the Tournament, 46-13 as a Number One seed and 40-12 in the quarterfinal round.

The Tar Heels will be playing in the semifinals for the seventh time in eight years and the 45th time in 59 ACC Tournaments. The Tar Heels are 30-14 in the semifinals.

John Henson suffered a left wrist injury in the first half and was limited to just seven minutes. He had x-rays taken at the arena at halftime, which were negative. He was unable to return to the game because of soreness.

Freshman forward James Michael McAdoo scored 14 points, his first game in double figures against ACC competition. He last scored in double figures on Dec. 19th, when he also had 14 points. McAdoo had a game-high eight rebounds, his highest figure since he had nine against Monmouth on New Year's Day (in 17 games). It was the second time this year he led the Tar Heels in rebounding (he shared team honors in the win over Georgia Tech on Jan. 29).

Freshman guard P.J. Hairston scored nine points, his highest output since he had 16 against Monmouth on Jan. 1st.

Sophomore guard Reggie Bullock shared team scoring honors with 15 points. It was the second time this year he led the Tar Heels in scoring (and first since November 22 when he scored a career-high 23 points against Tennessee State). Bullock has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games and made multiple threes in six of the last seven. He is 16 of his last 36 three-pointers in the last seven games.

Bullock made six field goals today, most since he had six against Long Beach on Dec. 10th.

Carolina shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the second half (16 of 26), its highest percentage in a half in ACC play and the highest since it shot 61.8 percent in the first half against Monmouth on Jan. 1.

The Tar Heels held the Terps to 38.7 percent shooting from the floor, the ninth time in the last 14 games that UNC held the opposition under 40 percent shooting. The Tar Heels are now 19-0 this season when the opponents shoot under 40 percent.

Carolina shot 50.8 percent from the floor today. UNC is now 9-0 this year when it shoots 50 percent or better from the floor.

This was the third time this year and the second game in a row that UNC had five players score in double figures (also at NC State and at Duke).

This was the 14th game in a row that the Tar Heels had equal to or more rebounds than the opponents (more rebounds in 13 of the 14).

Terrell Stoglin had 30 points for Maryland, the first 30-point against by an opponent in the ACC Tournament since Georgia Tech's Will Bynum had 35 in the 2005 semifinals.
