GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina sophomore midfielder R.G. Keenan have been named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. It is the fourth weekly award this season for Keenan during his banner sophomore campaign.
Keenan was named the Most Valuable Player of the Konica Minolta Big City Classic game between North Carolina and No. 1 Johns Hopkins. The Perry Hall, Md., native won 18-of-25 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls in the match.
He won 11-of-14 faceoffs in the first half as the Tar Heels built an 8-4 halftime advantage, and scored his second goal of the season in the second quarter. The nine ground balls were his second highest total this season, and his work on faceoffs helped the Tar Heels control possession en route to their first win over a top-ranked team since April 6, 1996.
