Five UNC Men Golfers Playing In U.S. Amateur

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, COL.-- Five University of North Carolina golfers, three current team members, are participating in the 112th U.S. Amateur Championship. Brandon Dalinka leads the Tar Heel contingent after the 1st round of stroke play and is tied for 32nd place.
Dalinka, a rising sophomore from Newtown, Pa., fired a 1-under-par 69 at CommonGround Golf Course, one of two courses used for the two rounds of stroke play. Dalinka carded a bogey on the first hole, but fired birdies on holes #3 and #7 and is tied for 32nd place. Bailey Patrick, also a rising sophomore, fired a 5-over 75 at CommonGround Golf Course. The native of Charlotte, N.C., posted three bogeys, two double bogeys and 1 birdie and stands tied for 184th.
Rob Simmons, who played for the Tar Heels 1998-2001, carded a 7-over 78 at Cherry Hills Country Cub and is tied for 230th. Matt Crenshaw, a member of the 2001-05 Tar Heel teams, posted an 8-over 79 at Cherry Hills and is tied for 253rd while Michael McGowan, a rising senior for the Tar Heels, carded a 9-over 80 at Cherry Hills and is tied for 273rd.
The final round of stroke play will be played Tuesday at Cherry Hills Country Club and Colorado Golf Association's CommonGround Golf Course. Match play will begin on Wednesday capped by a 36-hole championship final on Sunday.
