Suarez-Malaguti Earns ACC Weekly Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina senior Gina Suarez-Malaguti has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Suarez-Malaguti earned a pair of singles wins over ranked foes at No. 1 and one doubles victory while helping the No. 1 Tar Heels to road victories over No. 10 Miami (5-2) and No. 30 Florida State (5-2).
The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native teamed with Tessa Lyons at No. 3 doubles and rallied from a 6-2 deficit against Miami's Kelsey Laurente and Melissa Bolivar to win 9-8 and 11-9 in the tiebreak to clinch the doubles point. In singles action against the Hurricanes, Suarez-Malaguti dominated at the No. 1 slot and took down No. 79 Stephanie Wagner, 6-3, 6-3.
Against the Seminoles, Suarez-Malaguti was second off the courts in singles play following a 6-0, 7-5 win over No. 118 Francesca Segarelli at No. 1. Suarez-Malaguti owns a seven match win streak heading into the Tar Heels' match against No. 9 Duke on Wednesday, April 17. She stands 12-4 overall and 6-1 in ACC play at No. 1 singles.
