PORTSMOUTH, VA. - The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum announced Thursday its class of 2014 including former University of North Carolina track star LaTasha Colander Clark.
Colander Clark finished her collegiate career with more indoor All-America honors than any other student-athlete in Carolina history. She collected eight in total, including three in the 55-meter hurdles. She was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the 1995, 1997, and 1998 ACC Indoor Championships, as well as the 1997 outdoor event, and captured 14 ACC titles in total.
She was also a four-time outdoor All-America and was inducted into the Track Hall of Honor at UNC. Colander Clark still holds the school record in the indoor 200 meters (23.50) and outdoor 200 meters (23.21), and is second all-time in the indoor 60-meter hurdles (8.15) and outdoor 100-meter hurdles (13.07). Her 60-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles times were school records when she set them. They have since been eclipsed.
After leaving North Carolina, Colander Clark had success on the international stage. In 2000 she was part of the U.S. team that won Olympic gold in the 4x400-meter relay. Colander also helped set the world record for the 4x200-meter relay in 2000 at the Penn Relays by running the second leg. That world record is still standing today. In 2004 she was the Olympic Trials 100-meter champion. She was also a two-time U.S. 400-meter champion and in August 2005 she finished fifth in the 200 meters at the World Championships.
