Tar Heels To Host Eagles
January 18, 2014 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina (10-6, 0-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) returns home to host Boston College (5-12, 1-3) on Saturday at noon, looking to snap a three-game losing streak and avoid its first 0-4 ACC start.
The Tar Heels and Eagles will tip off just after noon on Saturday in the Smith Center. ESPN will televise the game nationally with Carter Blackburn (play-by-play) and Sean Farnham (analyst) on the call. Fans can view the game via the WatchESPN app.
The game will also be available on satellite radio (XM 190, Sirius 119). GoHeels TV subscribers can listen to the game here.
The Tar Heels have had a week off since last Saturday's 59-45 loss at No. 2 Syracuse, a defeat that dropped the Tar Heels to 0-3 in ACC play this season. it's just the second 0-3 ACC start in UNC history (joining 1996-97). Carolina has never started 0-4 in ACC play.
Boston College is coming off a 69-59 loss at home to Syracuse on Monday night. The Eagles have lost five of their last six games with the win coming at Virginia Tech last Saturday.
Carolina leads the series with the Eagles, 10-5. The Tar Heels have won eight of the last 10 meetings vs. Boston College, including four in a row. UNC is 3-2 against Boston College at home in the Smith Center, winning in 2008, 2011 and 2012 and losing in 2006 and 2009 in the series in Chapel Hill.
Last year, UNC won 82-70 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Two years ago, the Tar Heels beat the Eagles in Chapel Hill (see more details on both of those games below).
For the third season in a row, the Tar Heels and Eagles are meeting just once in 2013-14. The last time these squads played a home-and-home in the regular season was a Tar Heel sweep in 2010-11.
After Saturday's game, the Tar Heels will have a quick turnaround before playing at Virginia on Monday night at 7 p.m. The team is scheduled to practice on Sunday in Chapel Hill before flying to Charlottesville that evening.
After the contest at UVa, the Tar Heels will have a six-day break before hosting Clemson on Sunday evening, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. in the Smith Center.
