Track And Field Hosts Carolina Dreams
October 8, 2014 | Track & Field, Carolina Outreach
Approximately 20 members of the men's and women's track and field teams hosted three families at Late Night with Roy festivities Friday evening as part of the Carolina Dreams program.
A student-athlete-run organization that functions within Carolina Outreach, Carolina Dreams partners with North Carolina Children's Hospital to provide current or former patients and their families the opportunity to visit campus and attend an athletic event with student-athletes.
The group started with dinner in a conference room at the Ernie Williamson Athletic Center before a tour of the basketball museum. After that, everyone headed for the Smith Center for Late Night with Roy.
"My favorite part about the event was being able to just spend time and talk to the families and get to know them in the conference room before we headed to the museum," said Devon Carter, a senior on the men's track and field team. "As athletes we have been given the opportunity to become role models for those who watch us, and it's our job to set good examples. I think it's important for people in general to give back because you condition those you help to also want to help others through your generosity."
The next Carolina Dreams event is the men's soccer game against Virginia on Nov. 1.
