Most students get internships with resumes and applications, but University of North Carolina men's swimming team co-captain Mitch DeForest created his own - and he did it based on a hunch.
Invite A Professor to Practice Day
More than 30 faculty members attended football practice on Nov. 5 as part of 'Invite a Professor to Practice Day.' The professors got a 'chalk talk' prior to practice, watched on-field activities from the sidelines, had a round table discussion about the intersection of athletics and academics and then shared a meal with the student-athletes.
Carolina Field Hockey Career Symposium
When you're a college student, it can be challenging to picture your life five, 10 or 20 years in the future. The UNC field hockey team got help in doing that recently, when six program alumnae returned to campus to speak to the team about the career paths they've taken and offer advice.

Men's Soccer Lands Two on Academic All-District Team
Jonathan Campbell and Rob Lovejoy of the third-ranked North Carolina men's soccer team have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.
Neuenfeldt Named To Academic All-District Team
Paige Neuenfeldt, a business major from Birmingham, Mich., was named to the Capital One Academic All-District volleyball team
Four Tar Heels Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete
Sara Buchholz, Stephanie Krider, Jenna Kelly and Elly Wagner were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athletes for the 2014 season.
Nelson a Finalist for Senior CLASS Award
UNC volleyball senior Chaniel Nelson was chosen as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
CAROLINA OUTREACH
Tar Heels Make Annual Burn Center Visit
More than 35 UNC student-athletes participated in this year's Touchstone Energy UNC Burn Center Visit on Oct. 17. The annual visit to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center is a highlight on the Carolina Outreach calendar, bringing together members of a variety of teams to visit one of UNC's outstanding health care facilities and get the chance to help brighten the patients' days.
Happy Heeloween
It was all treats and no tricks Friday afternoon as North Carolina student-athletes visited with young patients at UNC Children's Hospital. This annual version of "Heeloween," a costumed visit to the hospital on Oct. 31, included members of the field hockey, gymnastics, softball and women's tennis teams.
Tar Heels Turn It Pink
Plenty of pink mixed with the usual Carolina blue in October as student-athletes and staff supported the fight against breast cancer. Tar Heels wore pink to practice, compete and work on Oct. 23, and the volleyball and field hockey teams hosted Turn It Pink games on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, respectively. (Football hosted its Turn it Pink game on Oct. 18 and women' soccer had its on Oct. 12.)

UNC Hospitals Trauma Staff Coaches Tar Heels in High-Stakes Leadership
A recent field trip to UNC Hospitals gave members of the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy's Veteran Leaders program an in-depth look at leadership in high-pressure situations.
