Former Tar Heel Bray Tied 2nd At Web.com Tour Qualifying

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. – Former University of North Carolina golfer Dustin Bray moved up to a tie for 2nd place following the second round of the final stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying being played at the PGA National Resort and Spa, Fazio and Champion Courses. Bray started the day tied for sixth and fired a 5-under 66 on the Champion Course and is just one stroke behind the leader.
Bray, a native of Asheboro, N.C., started on the back nine and birdied holes #10 and #15 while picking up a bogey on hole #17. He then caught fire on the front and birdied four holes - #1, #3, #5 and #7 to finish the day with a 5-under-par 66 and a 9-under 134 total. The six-round, 108-hole event continues through Tuesday and has 150 players vying for spots on the Web.com Tour.
Bray, who played for the Tar Heels 2000-01 – 2003-04, is the winningest golfer in school history with seven victories to his credit. Bray was a four-time selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team (2001-2004), Carolina's only four-time honoree. A semifinalist at the 2002 U.S. Amateur, Bray was named to the 2003 PING All-America first team, the 2002 PING All-America second team and the 2004 Honorable Mention PING All-America. Bray represented the United States at the 2003 Palmer Cup and at the 2002 U.S./Japan Matches. Earlier this fall, in September, he won the eGolf Tour Island View Casino Championship in Gulfport, Miss.
Rick Cochran III grabbed the second round lead at 10-under 133 after firing a 4-under 67 on the Champion Course on Friday. Ted Purdy shot a 4-under 68 on the Fazio Course and is tied with Bray in second place at 9-under 134. Justin Peters is alone in fourth place at 8-under 135 while three players are tied for fifth place at 7-under 136 – Matt Fast, Mikey Moyers and Brad Fritsch.
