Tar Heels Up To 20th In AP Poll

Tar Heel Poll Notes
• North Carolina is ranked No. 20 in this week's Associated Press top 25 poll, moving up four spots from No. 24 after winning on the road at UNCG and in Chicago over then-No. 12 Ohio State last week.
• This is Carolina's fourth week outside of the AP top 10 this season after spending the first three polls at No. 6 for two weeks and No. 5 for one week.
• Carolina is ranked in the AP poll for the 11th week in a row. UNC was ranked in the final four polls of last season, finishing the year at No. 19 (the final AP poll is released prior to the NCAA Tournament each season).
•The Tar Heels began the 2014-15 season ranked sixth in the preseason. UNC started the season in the top 10 for the ninth time in 12 seasons under head coach Roy Williams.
Looking Back…
• Ranked 24th last week, Carolina beat unranked UNCG and head coach Wes Miller in the Greensboro on Tuesday Dec. 16. The Tar Heels traveled to Chicago last Thursday and beat twelfth-ranked Ohio State 82-74 in the United Center on Saturday. The week before, Carolina lost at No. 1 Kentucky on Dec. 13 after a week of final exams.
Coming Up...
• This week, the Tar Heels are home for the Christmas holiday and will reconvene to host UAB in the Smith Center on Saturday at 4 p.m. Carolina also will host William & Mary on Tuesday Dec. 30 to close out the 2014 calendar year. Early Atlantic Coast Conference ranked opponents include No. 16 Notre Dame (Jan. 5) and No. 4 Louisville (Jan. 10).
ACC Teams in the Poll
• There are five Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in this week's AP poll, including No. 2 Duke, No. 4 Louisville, No. 5 Virginia, No. 16 Notre Dame and No 20 Carolina. Miami dropped out of the poll this week after being No. 18 last week.
Carolina's Poll History
• Carolina has been ranked in 827 AP polls, more than any school in the nation.
• The Tar Heels have been ranked in the AP Top 10 626 times, most in ACC history and second-most all-time behind Kentucky (638).
• The Tar Heels have achieved a Top 10 ranking in the AP poll in 52 of the poll's 66 seasons, including 46 of the last 49. Carolina has finished in the AP Top 10 34 times, including 23 of the last 34.
