Men Golfers in 11th at General Hackler Championship

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in 11th place at 47-over-par 623 after two rounds of the General Hackler Championship. Junior Bailey Patrick leads the Tar Heels at 9-over-par 153 and is tied for 33rd.
"I told the guys after today that we need to make golf simpler," says Tar Heel head coach Andrew Sapp. "We are just making it really hard on ourselves. We need to go out tomorrow and play a solid round. With a lot of the season in front of us we need a good round to build some momentum and confidence."
Patrick, of Charlotte, N.C., finished with 11 bogeys, one double bogey, two birdies and an eagle. Davis Bateman, another Charlotte native, finished with 13 bogeys and two birdies to end at 11-over-par 155. Bateman, a freshman, is tied for 38th. Junior Brandon Dalinka had a first-round score of 5-over and a second round score of 7-over to finish 12-over-par. Dalinka, of Newtown, Pa., finished the first day of competition in a tie for 42nd at 156. Senior Andy Knox is in a tie for 51st at 15-over-par, 159. The Cary, N.C., native was 2-under after two holes in the second round but couldn't finish the round under par. Freshman Henry Do rounds out the Tar Heels starting lineup. Do, from Canton, Mi., struggled with rounds of 82-87 and is tied for 67th.
Keagan Cummings, from Dublin, Ireland, is competing as an individual in the tournament and is tied for 28th. The sophomore posted a 7-over-par 79 in the first round but finished the second round at a 1-over 73 to card a two-round score of 8-over. Cummings is tied for 28th at 152.
Kent State leads the 12-team field at 16-over-par 592. Following close behind is East Carolina and Middle Tennessee State at 17-over par 593. ESTU is in fourth at 19-over while Iowa State is in fifth at 21-over. Host team Coastal Carolina is in sixth at 26-over-par, but Lamar and Louisville are just one stroke behind at 27-over 603.
Rhys Pugh of ESTU leads the tournament at 1-under-par 143. Corey Conners, of Kent State, Andrew Dorn, of Coastal Carolina, and Payne McLeod of UNCW are all tied for second at even par. Iowa State's Scott Fernandez and Louisville's Antoine Le Saux are tied for fifth at 2-over-par. In a three-way tie for seventh are Eric Brady of East Carolina, Taylor Pendrith of Kent State, and Ruben Sondjaja of Iowa State at 3-over. Tied for tenth are East Carolina's Wesley Conover and Ryan Eibner at 4-over-par
The 54-hole event is being played at TPC Myrtle Beach which features a par 72, 6,950-yard layout. The second round begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
