April 22, 2014 | Women's Basketball
Sports Illustrated has the Tar Heels No. 8 in its top 10, while ESPN has Carolina No. 10 among its pre-season top 25.
North Carolina is expected to return 12 players from the 2013-14 club that posted a 27-10 record and finished the season ranked No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches' poll.
Three double figure scorers are back for UNC: Allisha Gray (13.9), Xylina McDaniel (11.3) and Stephanie Mavunga (10.7).
Gray and Mavunga were named Freshman All-America's during the 2013-14 season. Gray's 501 points are the second most in Carolina history for a freshman, while Mavunga's 304 rebounds and 90 blocks both set rookie records for the Tar Heels.
McDaniel has compiled nearly 800 points and 500 rebound in her first two seasons in Chapel Hill. She will once again be counted on to lead her club as a junior in 2014-15.
