GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players Margaret Corzel, Taylor George, Sydney Holman and Sloane Serpe earned spots on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Lacrosse Team, announced on Monday by Commissioner John Swofford.
George earned the honors for the third year in a row, while Holman, Corzel and Serpe grabbed the accolade for the first time each.
All eight of the league's women's lacrosse programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, led by Syracuse with seven selections. Duke and Virginia followed each with five student-athletes on the team, while Boston College, Maryland and Carolina each placed four on the team, Notre Dame had three and Virginia Tech two. Syracuse senior Alyssa Murray was named the 2014 ACC Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Two student-athletes earned their fourth career ACC academic honor: Boston College's Moira Barry and Duke's Taylor Virden, while Boston College's Claire Blohm, Duke's Taylor Trimble, North Carolina's George and Virginia's Liza Blue are three-time honorees.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
