June 7, 2014 | Men's Golf
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Tar Heel Bailey Patrick fired a 3-under par 68 to grab the lead at the 54th North Carolina Amateur Championship being played at Carolina Golf Club. Patrick, a rising senior from Charlotte, sits at 12-under 201 and holds a two-stroke lead heading into Sunday's final round.
"Today was a pretty low-stress round," says Patrick. "I hit a lot of fairways and greens and didn't make many mistakes. I'm definitely looking forward to having a chance to win tomorrow."
Patrick's round featured four birdies and just one bogey on the par-71, 6,964-yard layout and jumped back into lead after earlier rounds of 62-71. He led after the first round and was just one stroke back after the second round. William Register, an incoming freshman for the Tar Heels, fired a 2-under 69 on Saturday and is tied for ninth place at 7-under 206. Another former Tar Heel, Jonathan Jackson, withdrew from the event.
