January 8, 2015 | Men's Golf
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina men's golf coach Andrew Sapp announced the addition of Raleigh, N.C. native Carter Jenkins to the Tar Heels squad. Jenkins, a sophomore transfer from UNCG, recently joined the team and will begin competing for the Tar Heels immediately.
“We are thrilled to have Carter join our golf program,” says Sapp. “He is a wonderful young man who adds firepower and depth to our team. With Carter, we get a proven winner, both collegiately and in the amateur ranks, and someone who has a passion to improve and help us win championships. Being from Raleigh, he has grown up playing with many of our players so his familiarity with his new teammates should help him transition into our program easily.”
In three semesters at UNCG, Jenkins played in all 17 tournaments for the Spartans and had a scoring average of 72.39, including two individual wins and eight top-10 finishes. Jenkins was selected the 2014 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and was named to the 2014 All-SoCon team. Jenkins won the 2013 Wolfpack Intercollegiate by firing a 13-under-par 203 total to break the 54-hole tournament record at UNCG. This past fall, he also won the 2014 AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.
Jenkins captured the title at the 2013 and 2014 Carolinas Amateur Championship. A four-year letterwinner at Leesville Road High School, Jenkins was the Tar Heel Golf Foundation Player of the Year four times. He was a four-time All-Cap 8 Conference selection and was a three-time All-State selection. Jenkins qualified for the Web.com Tour's Rex Hospital Open in 2013, and finished fourth in the stroke play portion of the 2012 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
