Scouting the Gamecock Invitational
Appalachian State: The Mountaineers come to Columbia with a 1-3 record, having dropped decisions to UAB, Chattanooga, and Auburn and besting Evansville. This will be the 40th meeting between the two schools, with Carolina leading the series 27-12. The last time they crossed paths came in 2013 when UNC won 9-2.
College of Charleston: Starting the year 3-1, the Cougars will face off with UNC for the 12th time, trailing the series 10-1 and dropped the last contest 16-0 in 2008.
South Carolina: The hosts Gamecocks received 15 votes in the latest NFCA poll and have a record of 4-2. After winning the first four games of the season South Carolina has lost their last two to East Carolina and UCF.
North Carolina was originally scheduled to face Presbyterian on Sunday but the contest was cancelled due to the inclement weather forecast for Columbia.
