The Tar Heels, #7 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, #9 in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll and #11 in the Golfstat Rankings, head to warmer surroundings as they travel to Puerto Rico to participate in the Puerto Rico Classic this Sunday through Tuesday. The 54-hole event will be played at Rio Mar Resort & Spa which features a par 72, 6,902-yard layout. There will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 Sunday morning. The Tar Heels won their first tournament of the spring campaign, the Sea Best Invitational, played Feb. 2-3 at TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Freshman Ben Griffin and sophomore Carter Jenkins led Carolina with 8th-place finishes while freshman William Register placed 12th, senior Brandon Dalinka tied for 15th and sophomore Henry Do tied for 43rd.
