North Carolina (17-6, 7-3 ACC) will try to rebound from its first losing streak of the season when it visits Boston College (9-12, 1-8) on Saturday afternoon at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Tipoff is set for 3:06 p.m., and the ACC Network will televise the game regionally with Tim Brando (play-by-play) and Dan Bonner (analyst) on the call. WatchESPN will stream the game online.
Carolina lost to a pair of ranked opponents last week, dropping an overtime decision at No. 10 Louisville last Saturday and losing to No. 2 Virginia in Chapel Hill on Monday night. The two consecutive losses are UNC's first back-to-back defeats this season.
The Tar Heels enter the weekend at 7-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, good for fourth place behind Virginia (8-1), Notre Dame (9-2) and Louisville (7-2) and just ahead of Duke (6-3) and Syracuse (6-3).
The Tar Heels are 3-1 on the road in the ACC this season with wins at Clemson, N.C. State and Wake Forest (and a loss at Louisville). Williams' ACC road winning percentage of .649 is second-best in ACC history behind Vic Bubas of Duke (.667 from 1960-69).
Boston College enters Saturday's game with a record of 9-12 overall and 1-8 in ACC play. The Eagles have lost three consecutive games and five of their last six. Their ACC win this season came at Georgia Tech on Jan. 25.
BC is No. 119 overall in the KenPom.com rankings, coming in at No. 110 in adjusted defensive efficiency and No. 145 offensively in the website's adjusted efficiency ratings.
Carolina leads the series with the Eagles, 11-5. The Tar Heels have won nine of the last 11 meetings vs. Boston College, including five in a row. Williams is 9-4 vs. Boston College as a head coach and has won nine of his last 11 meetings with the Eagles after losing the first two in 2005-06 (BC's first season in the ACC). Carolina is 4-1 against Boston College on the road in the Conte Forum, winning in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2013 and losing in 2010.
Last year, Carolina beat Boston College, 82-71, in Chapel Hill. Two years ago in the last meeting at BC, UNC won 82-70 in Chestnut Hill.
After the Tar Heels play Boston College, they will have a week off between games before playing at Pitt (Saturday Feb. 14) and then at Duke (Wednesday Feb. 18). Carolina will play back-to-back home games on Feb. 21 and 24 against Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, respectively.
