“Overall, the first two events were the strongest part of the meet for us,” said head coach Derek Galvin. “[In] the last two events, we weren't quite as strong as a team, but we did have some exceptional individual performances.”
In the all-around competition, UNC placed three gymnasts in the top five. Lane won with a score of 39.000 while Haley Watts finished second with a 38.925. Lexi Cappalli scored a 38.500, placing fifth.

“Balance beam, unfortunately, was similar to last weekend at NC State. It wasn't a strong team performance. That's an area where we have got to go back and improve our mental focus,” said Galvin.
The Tar Heels finished the competition on the floor exercise, tallying a score of 48.625. UNC placed three gymnasts in the top four. Lane received the highest score, a 9.850, Cappalli placed second with a 9.825 and Watts finished fourth with a 9.700.
“We feel the team should be scoring in the mid to high-195 [range]. [During] the first half of the meet, we had the beginnings to achieve that, but the second half of the meet wasn't quite as strong,” said Galvin.
UNC will return to competition on Sat, Feb. 14 in Chapel Hill, NC. The Tar Heels will take on No. 9 Georgia at 1 p.m. in Carmichael Arena.
