March 18, 2015 | Softball
Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Tar Heels got off to a dream start against UNCG on Tuesday night, jumping out to a commanding 6-0 lead in the first inning and never letting up.
The first six North Carolina batters each tallied a hit to begin the game, including Kristen Brown and Kendra Lynch who blasted three-run home runs.
Brown would knock her second homer of the day one inning later, this time a solo shot with two outs to make the score 7-0.
The Tar Heels would pile on eight more runs in the bottom of the third behind home runs from Jenna Kelly and Lauren Walker. Kelly belted two in the inning, a solo and two-run home run respectively. Three runs would score on a Kati Causey single that was misplayed by the UNCG leftfielder. Amber Parrish picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly and by the end of the inning the scoreboard read 15-0 on 12 North Carolina hits.
Kaylee Carlson picked up the win in the circle to improve to 10-2 on the year. The freshman pitched three innings, giving up one hit while fanning two Spartans. Lauren Fuller would pitch two innings of relief.
Carolina is now 20-5 in 2015 and remains undefeated at home at 12-0. The Tar Heels will travel to Louisville this weekend for an ACC series with the Cardinals.
