March 2, 2015 | Women's Basketball
North Carolina (23-7, 10-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) will play the final game of the day on Thursday at 8 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday's first round game between Georgia Tech and Clemson.
The Yellow Jackets are the 11th seed and own a 17-13 overall record, 7-9 in the ACC, while 14th-seed Clemson is 9-20, 1-15.
Behind 20 points and 13 rebounds from Stephanie Mavunga, the Tar Heels won 96-81 over Georgia Tech on Jan. 11 in Chapel Hill in the only meeting between the two clubs this season.
A week later on Jan. 18, Jessica Washington scored a career-high 20 points in a 78-56 victory over the Tigers at Littlejohn Coliseum.
Carolina owns a 5-1 record against Georgia Tech at the ACC Tournament, but did lose the last meeting, 54-53, in the 2012 quarterfinals.
UNC is 11-4 against Clemson, and topped the Tigers, 90-51, in the first round game back in 2012.
The Tar Heels are the No. 6 seed for just the fourth time in 38 seasons of the tournament, but for the second-straight year. UNC reached the semifinals after picking up wins over Wake Forest and third-seed Maryland in 2014.
