March 26, 2015 | Softball
Chapel Hill, N.C. – UNC softball's (21-9, 6-2) unbeaten streak at home came to an end Wednesday night when the No. 25 James Madison Dukes took both games of the doubleheader at Anderson Stadium.
Game One
Carolina fell behind early to JMU as Erica Field hit a two –run home run in the top of the first to give the Dukes a 2-0 lead.
Taylor Wike jump started the Tar Heel offense in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff single and was moved to second by an Aquilla Mateen sacrifice bunt. Kristen Brown's single up the middle took a weird bounce off the bag at second, letting Wike round third and scamper home, making it a one run game.
Brown would come up big again in the bottom of the third, taking James Madison starter Megan Good downtown for a two-run blast, giving UNC a 3-2 lead.
The Dukes took the lead back in the fourth after Erin Satterfield's throw from third went over Jenna Kelly's head at first, allowing two runs to cross the plate.
JMU picked up one more in the sixth, making the score 5-3 where it would stay.
Kaylee Carlson struck out seven batters in the losing effort, pitching all seven innings. The Tar Heels tallied seven hits in game one. Through the first five innings, the Carolina leadoff batter got on base each inning with a single.
Game 2
UNC fell behind early again in game two, as a fielding error by Kristen Brown set up a Megan Good RBI single and Jailyn Ford would follow her with an RBI single of her own in the top of the first.
The Dukes picked up two more runs in the third after a Morgan Tolle single through the right side let runners score from second and third.
A four hit sixth inning brought home three more runs for JMU, making the score 7-0.
Mistakes in the field were the Tar Heels undoing in game two, giving up three unearned runs on four errors.
Megan Good held Carolina hitless through the first five innings until Darby Rosen lead off the bottom of the sixth with a double.
UNC managed to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out after Kendra Lynch hit a deep fly ball that was misplayed by the JMU centerfielder, allowing her to take second. Erin Satterfield would come in to pinch run and was moved to third on a Jenna Kelly single. The bases were loaded for Lauren Walker after Amber Parrish was hit by a pitch. Walker hit a high fly ball to right field that was caught. Satterfield tried to take home plate but wound up caught in a pickle after Tahli Moore threw a bullet from right to her catcher eventually nabbing Satterfield at third.
Game two was the first time North Carolina has been shut out by an opponent in 2015.
The Tar Heels will be back in action with an ACC series against Virginia at home this weekend.
