Mavunga Selected For U.S. Pan Am Team

Mavunga previously competed on the USA Women's U16 National Team in 2011, helping bring home the gold medal.
The 12-member team was chosen after three days of trials with 51 total college athletes vying for a spot. The roster includes Linnae Harper (Kentucky/Chicago, Ill.); Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut/Glenn Heights, Texas); Mavunga Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina/Charlotte, N.C.); Kelsey Plum (Washington/Poway, Calif.); Taya Reimer (Notre Dame/Fishers, Ind.); and Breanna Stewart (Connecticut/North Syracuse, N.Y.).
Additional players on their first USA Basketball team include Sophie Brunner (Arizona State/Freeport, Ill.); Alaina Coates (South Carolina/Irmo, S.C.); Caroline Coyer (Villanova/Oak Hill, Va.); Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Maryland/Aliquippa, Pa.) and Courtney Williams (Texas A&M/Houston, Texas).
Lisa Bluder of the University of Iowa will coach team, with Michelle Clark-Heard of Western Kentucky and Scott Rueck of Oregon State as assistant coaches.
“I'm very excited,” Bluder said in the release. “I think we have a tremendous team. I think we have excellence at every position. And now, we are set on the gold.”
The team will begin training in early July in preparation for the tournament in Toronto, Canada July 16-20.
Mavunga led the Tar Heels in the 2014-15 season in field goal percentage at .483 and field goals made with 202 over the span of 35 games. She was also the top offensive and defensive rebounder with 4.1 per game and 9.6 per game, respectively.
