June 12, 2015 | Women's Basketball
“We've prepared well for the tournament, and we're just excited to be here,” Sanders said. “We're going for a medal.”
Sanders debuted for Turkey's Senior Women's National Team at the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women, which took place in Istanbul and Ankara last fall. She led the team in points (12.3) and rebounds (8.7) per game. Her 14 points, 19 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a 62-61 quarterfinal win over Serbia lifted Turkey to the semifinals and a historic fourth-place finish.
Sanders is coming off of a strong season with Abdullah Gül University. She averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds and led her club to its first ever Turkish Women's Basketball League (TKBL) Finals.
The gold medallist at EuroBasket Women will automatically qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Teams finishing 2-5 will qualify for the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will take place next summer.
