Carolina Drops Decision At Wake Forest

Watts registered her fourth double-double of her rookie season at North Carolina (12-9, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) with 24 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter. Jamie Cherry added 18 for the Tar Heels.
Elisa Penna was instrumental in Wake Forest (10-9, 1-5) picking up its first ACC win with 18 points, while Ariel Stephenson had 16 points. Ataijah Taylor notched 13 for the Demon Deacons.
Cherry knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter to lead Carolina early in this in-state rival. However, eight turnovers allowed Wake Forest to grab an 18-14 advantage.
The Tar Heels continued to struggle from the floor in the second quarter, allowing the Demon Deacons to extend their lead to as many as 13 points, before settling with a 36-24 lead at the half.
Cherry led all scores with 11 points at the break, making four of the Tar Heels' seven shots in the first half.
Wake Forest led by double figures throughout the second half, leading by as many as 18, 56-38, in the final minute of the third quarter.
Carolina whittled its deficit down to 10 on two occasions in the final 1:44 of regulation.
