Register's 66 Leads UNC Up to Fourth at Tavistock

University of North Carolina junior William Register shot a bogey-free round of 66 and is tied for third place and the Tar Heels moved up to fourth after the second round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational Monday at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
Register had three birdies on the front nine and went eagle-birdie on the 13th and 14th holes to shoot 6-under for the second round. The 66 is the low round by a Tar Heel this season and is the Burlington, N.C. native's best round since a 66 in the 2015 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional.
Register is tied for third four shots behind Alejandro Tosti of Florida (-9) and two strokes behind Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech (-7). Register's 66 is the second-best score of the first two rounds. Tosti fired a 7-under 65 today.
Senior Zach Martin had a 1-under-par 71 and freshman Austin Hitt shot 72. The Tar Heel duo is tied for 12th place after 36 holes at 1-under 143.
The Tar Heels moved up three spots today to fourth place behind Florida, Vanderbilt and Purdue. Carolina shot a 3-under-par 288 for the round and is at 2-under 574 for the tournament. The Gators played the second round 11-under-par and leads Vanderbilt by nine strokes entering the final round.
“William (Register) played beautifully today,” says UNC head coach Andrew Sapp. “It was an incredible round on this course; I am so pleased for him. We had three good scores today and were able to move up. Tomorrow we are looking for five good scores to continue the trend up the leader board.”
The third and final round is Tuesday. This is Carolina's final team event of the fall.
