Third and Final Round of Tar Heel Intercollegiate Cancelled
October 8, 2016 | Men's Golf
The third and final round of the 2016 Tar Heel Intercollegiate men's golf tournament has been cancelled due to extremely wet grounds at UNC Finley Golf Course. UNCW is the team champion and Coastal Carolina's Alfredo Ruiz and UNCG's Jake McGlone share medalist honors.
Thirteen teams and 16 individuals played 36 holes over two rounds on Friday. The tournament was originally scheduled to be played Saturday and Sunday, but the first two rounds were moved up to Friday.
North Carolina finished second, three strokes behind the Seahawks. UNCW shot 9-under-par 567. Ruiz and McGlone finished at 6-under 138. McGlone's 67 in the second round was the best round of the event.
UNC senior Zach Martin finished tied for fifth at 3-under and his brother, Joshua, tied for eighth at -2.
The Tar Heels return to action October 16-18 at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
