CHAPEL HILL—Carolina brings a 2-0 record to play Long Beach State in the second of a two-game homestand on Tuesday, November 15th.
The Tar Heels defeated Chattanooga, the preseason favorites in the Southern Conference and an NCAA Tournament from a year ago with five returning starters, 97-57, on November 13th.
The Tar Heels are in the midst of seven games in 13 days (only two at home). Carolina's next five games are away from Chapel Hill (at Hawai'i Nov. 18, in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Nov. 21-23 and at Indiana Nov. 30).
The Tar Heels return home on Dec. 4 vs. Radford, the start of a three-game homestand and a stretch of five out of six games at the Smith Center.
Long Beach State is 1-1 with a 95-59 home win over Cal State Los Angeles and a 92-55 loss at Wichita State.
Early Season Notes
♦ UNC has scored at least 95 points in consecutive games for the first time since scoring 100 vs. Elon and 102 vs. Monmouth in 2011-12.
♦ The Tar Heels have 49 assists on 68 field goals (72 percent) in the first two games.
♦ Carolina has 50 or more rebounds in each of the first two games (52 at Tulane, 51 vs. Chattanooga).
♦ Carolina shot 17 of 31 from the floor in the first half in each of the first two games (.548) and is a combined 34 for 77 in the second half (.442).
♦ Four Tar Heels have scored in double figures in both games (Joel Berry II, Justin Jackson, Isaiah Hicks and Tony Bradley) and one (Kennedy Meeks) has double-figure rebounds in both games.
♦ Carolina has made 40 free throws and the opponents have attempted 28.
♦ Carolina has 40 offensive rebounds and the opponents have 38 defensive rebounds.
♦ Carolina is shooting 45.7 percent from three-point range (16 for 35).
♦ Joel Berry II has scored 41 points. His previous high for consecutive games was 35 (16 vs. Clemson and 19 vs. Georgia Tech last year).
♦ Kennedy Meeks has 27 rebounds, the most he has ever grabbed in back-to-back games (previous was 25, 13 vs. Florida and 12 vs. Iowa as a sophomore).
♦ Justin Jackson has made six three-pointers, the most he has made in consecutive games (previous five, three vs. Miami and two at NC State last year).
Non-Conference Slate One of Nation's Best
♦ ESPN rated Carolina's non-conference schedule the second-most difficult in the country behind Kansas.
♦ UNC's non-conference schedule includes five NCAA Tournament teams (Chattanooga, Hawai'i, Indiana, Kentucky and Northern Iowa) and three NIT teams from a year ago (Long Beach State, Davidson and Monmouth).
♦ Possible opponents in Maui include three 2016 NCAA Tournament teams in Connecticut, Oregon and Wisconsin.
♦ Four of UNC's non-conference opponents have been picked to win their respective conferences in preseason media polls (Chattanooga in the Southern Conference, Long Beach State in the Big West, Kentucky in the SEC and Monmouth in the Metro Atlantic).
♦ UConn is picked second in the American, Northern Iowa is picked third in the Missouri Valley, Indiana is picked third in the Big 10 and Davidson is picked fourth in the A-10.
♦ Others include possible Maui opponents Oregon (picked to win the Pac-12), Wisconsin (highest-rated Big 10 team in the preseason AP poll) and Georgetown (picked fourth in the Big East).
The Long Beach State Series
♦ Carolina is 3-0 vs. the 49ers with all three wins coming in the Roy Williams era.
♦ UNC is 2-0 in the Smith Center (12/11/10 and 12/10/11) and 1-0 at Long Beach (11/16/12).
♦ The Tar Heels won the last meeting on the road at the Walter Pyramid, 78-63, on 11/16/12. Following that game UNC flew to Hawaii for the 2012 Maui Invitational.
♦ Carolina led by just a point at the half in the most recent meeting, but out-scored the 49ers, 45-31, in the second half for the victory.
♦ James Michael McAdoo led UNC with 18 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Marcus Paige had 15, P.J. Hairston added 14 and freshman Brice Johnson had 10 points and eight boards for UNC.
Next Game
♦ The Tar Heels leave for Hawai'i on Wednesday, November 16, where they play at the University of Hawai'i on November 18 and in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational November 21-23.

No. 5/6 in the Polls
♦ Carolina is No. 5 in the Associated Press and No. 6 in the ESPN/Coaches polls after two games.
♦ Carolina opened the season ranked No. 6 in the nation in both polls.
♦ This is the 11th straight year UNC is ranked in the AP's preseason poll (last time not ranked to begin the season was 2005-06) and the 30th time in the last 32 seasons (1984-85 and 2005-06).
♦ This is the 38th season in which the Tar Heels begin the year ranked in the AP top 10. It is the 11th preseason top-10 ranking in Roy Williams' 14 seasons as UNC's head coach. The Tar Heels finished the season in the top 10 in seven of the previous 10 seasons under Williams.
Berry Earns ACC Player of the Week Honor
♦ Joel Berry II shared ACC Player of the Week honors for November 11-13 with Pitt's Michael Young. Berry averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 assists in wins over Tulane and Chattanooga.
♦ This is Berry's second consecutive and second career ACC Player of the Week award. He won last March as the ACC Tournament's MVP.
