Heels Wrap Up Preseason Scrimmages

Chapel Hill, NC -- The North Carolina Tar Heels wrapped up their preseason scrimmages as Navy took a 9-6 win over Blue on Sunday afternoon at a bitterly cold Boshamer Stadium.
Blue scored the first run of the scrimmage when Cole Gibbs scored from third on a botched pick-off attempt at first. Navy tied the score at 1-1 on a Tyler Ramirez sacrifice fly to left in the fifth.
Blue took a 4-1 lead with a three-run bottom of the fifth. Two runs scored on an infield error before Eli Sutherland laced an RBI-single.
Navy came back to tie the score at 4-4 with three runs in the sixth. A run scored on a fielder's choice before Logan Warmoth drove in two runs with a single
Navy picked up three more runs in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. Brendan Illies drove in a run with a single before Logan Warmoth ripped a two-run double to left.
Blue got a run back in the bottom of the inning on Zack Gahagan's run-scoring single. Navy responded with two runs in the eighth when a run scored on an error, then Brian Miller drove in a run with a single up the middle for a 9-5 lead. Blue scored the final run of the scrimmage on a Tyler Lynn double in the eighth.
Jason Morgan and J.T. Rogoszewski got the starts. A.J. Bogucki, Taylor Sugg, Cole Aker, Zach Rice, Josh Hiatt and Brendon Little threw in relief.
The Tar Heels will now head west for a three-game series with UCLA beginning on Friday. Carolina will open their home season with a big three game-series with Oklahome St. beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.
