Boston College's three-game road trip did not get any better after the Eagles left Chapel Hill, as Jim Christian's team lost 61-47 at Virginia and 79-47 at Louisville to fall to 0-10 in league play. The performance at Louisville was particularly bleak, with the offense mustering just 47 points in 65 possessions, including 14 in the first 20 minutes.
BC was dealt a cruel blow prior to the first UNC game when standout freshman Jerome Robinson was ruled out after breaking his wrist against Florida State. The Raleigh product, who ranks second on the team with 10.4 points per contest, is likely to miss another month and may not be back until 2016-17.
Freshman Sammy Barnes-Thompkins has stepped up in Robinson's absence and has played well in his first extended minutes of the year. He and classmate Matt Millon have added an outside threat to the lineup in conference play, with both guards making better than 50 percent of their 3s against ACC foes.
Junior Garland Owens has also been more involved of late, starting the last seven games and scoring a season-high 14 points in Chapel Hill in the first meeting with UNC.
The Boston College schedule finally lets up in the final month of the season. With no more games against the KenPom top 30 remaining and shots at home wins over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Clemson down the stretch, the Eagles will continue to fight to avoid becoming the first winless ACC team since the 1986-87 Maryland squad that finished 0-14.
