Carolina Tied For Fifth At General Hackler

The North Carolina men's golf team sits in a tie for fifth at 3-under-par 573 after the second round of the General Hackler Championship at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Henry Do led the Tar Heels in the first round of the two-round day, posting a 3-under 69 to tie for third. The junior turned in a 73 in the afternoon to sit in a tie for 14th at 2-under 142.
Carter Jenkins carded a pair of 71s, including an eagle on the par-5 15th at the par-72, 7,233-yard course to match Do's total at 2-under 142.
William Register posted a 73 and 71 in his two outings to tie for 23rd at even-par 144. Ben Griffin sits in a tie for 35th at 2-over 146, while Joshua Martin is tied for 42nd at 4-over 148.
In the individual category, Zach Martin sits best out of the Tar Heels in a tie for fourth at 4-under 140 after a pair of 70s that included nine birdies.
South Carolina leads the field after a second-round 9-under explosion that gave them a three-shot lead over Virginia. The Cavaliers posted the best team score of the day with a second-round 12-under 276.
Jimmy Stanger of Virginia leads the pack at 8-under 136 after a field-low 66 in the second round. Gisli Sveinbergsson of Kent State sits closely behind at 6-under 138, followed by Will Miles of South Carolina in third at 5-under 139. The five-way tie for fourth includes Matthew NeSmith of South Carolina, Seth Gandy of Charlotte, Jacob McBride of N.C. State, Martin of North Carolina and Scott Stevens of South Carolina.
North Carolina will tee off from 9:20-10:00 a.m. off No. 1 Sunday. The tournament is scheduled to finish Sunday. For more information, visit golfstat.com.
