Griffin Earns Highest Season Finish At Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga.—Ben Griffin earned his highest finish of the season with a fifth place notch as the North Carolina men's golf team finished in eighth at 16-under-par 848 after the final round of the Schenkel Invitational.
Cooler conditions Sunday created higher team scores across the board, six shots higher than either of the first two rounds at the Forest Heights Country Club par-72, 6,947-yard course.
Griffin turned in a 3-under 69 after a pair of 68s to finish in fifth at 11-under 205. The sophomore finished third-best in the field in the Par-4 category, scoring an average of 3.83 (-5) on the par-4s. Junior Carter Jenkins tied for 25th at 4-under 212, while sophomore William Register finished one shot back at 3-under 213 in a tie for 34th. Junior Henry Do tied for 57th at 3-over 219, while freshman Joshua Martin finished at 10-over 226.
Vanderbilt surged into first and held on for the win at 41-under 823 after a 19-under 269 afternoon. Wake Forest moved into second at 31-under 833, while Kentucky and N.C. State tied for third at 25-under 839. Auburn, one of the co-leaders after the second round, finished in fifth at 23-under 841.
Freshman Will Gordon of Vanderbilt posted a clean final-round 9-under 63 to pick up his first collegiate co-win with Michael Johnson of Auburn at the Schenkel Invitational. Cameron Young of Wake Forest and J.J. Grey of Georgia State finished one shot back at 12-under 204. Griffin of North Carolina rounded out the top five at 11-under 205.
