Tar Heels Remain Ninth At ACC Golf

University of North Carolina sophomore William Register shot a 3-under-par 69 in the second round and is tied for 11th place at the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Old North State Club.
Carolina improved its team score by two strokes from round one to 293, but stands in ninth place with a two-round total of 588, 12 strokes over par and 31 shots behind day-two leader Clemson. The Tigers followed their first round 273 with a 284, which tied Florida State for the best team score of the day.
Register carded four birdies, two on each side, and just one bogey. Sophomore Ben Griffin also improved on the second day with a 74. Griffin and freshman Joshua Martin are tied for 42nd place at 6-over 150. Carter Jenkins followed a 72 on Friday with a 75 and is 34th at 3-over.
Clemson leads the event at 19-under and is followed by Wake Forest (-11), Florida State (-5), Georgia Tech (-1) and Virginia (-1), the only teams under par with 18 holes to play.
Wake Forest's Davis Womble leads individual play at -7, one stroke better than Clemson's Austin Langdale and Bryson Nimmer.
The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday.
