UNC Closes Battle of the Blues

DURHAM, N.C. – The University of North Carolina track and field teams completed the Battle of the Blues on Saturday. The Tar Heels had a great showing against competing teams Duke and Michigan.
In running events, Ceo Ways finished first in the men's 200m and 400m with times of 21.11, and 47.09 respectively. Brandon Reddick finished the men's 200m in third with a time of 21.68. Kenny Selmon won two events in hurdles today: 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 and the men's 400-meter hurdles with a top time of 50.75.
In the women's 800m, Lizzy Whelan finished with a time of 2:06.64 for a first place while O'Neal Wanliss finished the men's 800m in second with a time of 1:50.07. Logan Carroll posted a time of 3:49:38 to finish second in the men's 1500m. D'Monte Farley had a second-place finish in the 100m at 10.77.
The men's 4x100 team ran 42.09 to finish first over Duke, and the men's 4x400 team ran 3:07.81 to secure first place for the Tar Heels.
In the field events, freshman Nicole Greene started Carolina off with a first-place jump of 5-10 ½ (1.79 meters) in the women's high jump. Freshman Darryl Shaw had a triple jump distance of 49-9 (15.16 meters) earning him a first-place finish in the event. Alexis Gannon jumped 18-11 ¾ (5.78 meters) in the women's long jump taking second.
Carolina took first and second place in the men's pole vault with senior Austin Vegas in first with a jump of 16-10 ¾ (5.15 meters) topping his personal record, and freshman Drew Pedersen in second with a jump of 15-7 (4.75 meters).
Freshman Joey Souza finished first in the men's long jump with a distance of 24-3 (7.39 meters), and senior Houston Summers took first in the men's javelin. His best mark came in at 232-11 (71.01 meters) beating his personal record. AJ Hicks captured second place for the Tar Heels with a throw of 171-10 (52.38m) in men's discus.
The men took home the team title title 83 points. The women finished in third with 48 points.

This Wednesday and Thursday, Carolina track and field will travel to Athens, Georgia to compete in the UGA Invite.
