Summer Ball Dispatches: Brian Miller
June 27, 2016 | Baseball
I hope everyone is enjoying their summers so far! I'm fortunate enough to be playing in the Cape Cod League for the Orleans Firebirds. It's been a lot of fun so far, the weather is perfect (no where near as humid as NC), and I'm getting the opportunity to play with some of the best players in the country. Up here with me are other Tar Heels as well; Jason Morgan, Zack Gahagan, Logan Warmoth, Hansen Butler, Hunter Williams and Trevor Gay are all playing up in the Cape. We're all pumped for our junior years in Chapel Hill.
First off, congratulations to all of my former teammates who were chosen this year in the MLB Draft! I'm so excited for them and proud of them for chasing their dreams of playing professional baseball. Also, congrats to Brice and Marcus taken by the Clippers and Jazz! It's really cool to interact with those guys on a daily basis and see them get this opportunity, as well.
Jason Morgan and I are living together with two other teammates from Virginia Tech and Louisville. Our host mom is so awesome and her dog (Luna) has quickly become one of our best friends. It's pretty cool getting to live with and play with guys from other SEC and ACC schools that have similar experiences to us at Carolina.
As for me, I'm continuing to improve all facets of my game for my junior year including my outfield play (arm strength, speed, etc.) and approach at the plate offensively. Summer leagues mostly use wood bats which I enjoy. There's something about the authenticity of them that makes it much more baseball-like than metal. On top of that, my coaches up here are awesome. They all provide different perspectives to the game of baseball and I've really enjoyed playing for them thus far.
We are all excited to get back to the Bosh and start preparing together for next season. Although we have not achieved our goals as a team recently at Carolina, nothing has changed for us. We are still The University of North Carolina and that means something. We take a lot of pride in being a Tar Heel and we expect greatness. With that being said, enjoy the rest of your summers. Following football and basketball season, baseball season will be here before we know it in Chapel Hill. You all are awesome and we appreciate everything you guys do in supporting us.
God bless and go Heels!
