Tar Heels Check In At No. 1 In Preseason Coaches Poll

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Coach Joe Breschi's 2017 University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team has received the No. 1 ranking in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Nike Division I coaches poll. UNC received eight first-place votes in the poll while No. 2 Maryland received four first-place votes and No. 3 Denver earned six first-place votes.
The defeding NCAA champion Tar Heels, who beat Maryland 14-13 in overtime in last year's title game, will play No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Denver, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 5 Syracuse, No. 7 Duke, No. 8 Johns Hopkins and No. 14 Virginia during its 2017 regular-season slate.
UNC opens the 2017 campaign against UMBC on February 4 at 3 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
