Carolina in 11th Place in Puerto Rico

The University of North Carolina shot an opening round 8-over-par 296 and is tied for 11th place after day one of the 2017 Puerto Rico Classic Sunday at the Rio Mar River Course.
Georgia is 7-under and leads NC State by two strokes. Clemson (-4) and Kentucky (-2) are also under par after 18 holes in the 54-hole event.
Freshman Austin Hitt shot an ever-par 72 to lead the Tar Heels. Hitt is tied for 21st. Preyer Fountain and Ben Griffin shot 74, Jose Montaño shot 76 and William Register opened with an 80.
NC State's Stephen Franken shot 5-under 67 for the best round of the day.
The tournament, hosted by Purdue, continues with the second round on Monday.
