February 27, 2017 | Men's Golf
Raleigh, N.C. – The 2017 Heel Pack Individual finished on Sunday following the second round of play at NC State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Stephen DiLisio of Duke won the event with a score of 1-under par overall.
DiLisio was driven by the best score of the second day, a 2-under par 70. As one of only two under par rounds on the day, the score was enough to carry him to the championship after starting the day in a tie for fifth place.
The overnight leader Thomas LaMorte of Campbell finished second after a 4-over par 76 left him at even-par overall. Three shots behind LaMorte was a three-way tie for fifth between Preyer Fountain of North Carolina, Woody Woodard of Wake Forest, and Kyle Sterbinsky of Wake Forest.
Carolina was represented by Fountain, Josh Martin, who finished 4-over and tied for ninth, Davis Bateman, who finished 7-over and tied for 14th, and Tailin Song, who finished 10-over and tied for 21st.
The second round at Lonnie Poole resulted in scores nearly a full shot lower on average than the first round which took place at UNC's Finley Golf Course in blustery conditions.
The tournament was contested on an individual basis with no team scoring. Campbell, Charlotte, Duke, Liberty, Limestone College, NC State, North Carolina, UNCG, and Wake Forest all sent individuals to take part.
Next up for Carolina will be a trip to California for the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic the 13th and 14th of March.
