Tar Heels One Off the Lead at the Sea Best Invitational

Freshman Austin Hitt and junior Jose Montaño shot second-round 67s and juniors Ben Griffin and William Register carded a 69 and 70, respectively, as the University of North Carolina men's golf team pulled within one shot of second-ranked Florida after 36 holes at the Sea Best Invitational on Monday.
The tournament, Carolina's first of the spring semester, is being contested at TPC at Sawgrass at the Dye's Valley Course. Final round action is Tuesday.
The Gators led by three shots after 18 holes before the Tar Heels went out in the afternoon and shot a season-best 273, 10 strokes lower than any of its 11 rounds during the fall portion of the schedule.
Hitt and Register are tied for seventh place at 2-under 138, five shots back of the individual leader, Ryan Orr of Florida. The Gators have the top three individuals, but the Tar Heels have four of the top 14 players in the field. Griffin and Montaño are tied for 14th at 1-over-par 141.
The second round was the first of the season in a team event in which more than one Tar Heel shot in the 60s. Hitt's 67 and Griffin's 69 were their low 18-hole scores of the season.
